All set for 2014!

Who says school meetings must be held in school? What a good start to the new year 2014 as we had our very first meeting at a hotel. Nobody mind paying RM 95.00 per person as it was a 4-in-1 meeting and instead of attending meetings in school for 3 days, we only had to spend 1 whole day from 8.00 a.m. till 4.30 p.m. What was there to complain about when the venue was so comfortable with the powerful air-conditioning(a bit too cold for some of the ladies who needed to put on their shawls) and hotel food definitely beats canteen food anytime.

The venue chosen was the De Palma Hotel in Ampang as it was just 20 minutes away from our school and it was an ideal location as my home was just 5 minutes from the hotel(hehehe), so I hope the venue would remain the same end of next year. Well..I am sure we will keep the tradition of having our first meeting at a hotel as all the teachers were quite happy with the arrangement..(haven't heard any complaint so far...)

A chain of hotels under the De Palma umbrella

The room that fits 90 of us

At the registration counter, we were given some new year goodies to help us in carrying out our workload in 2014.

A pocket file which contains the rest of the goodies

Responsibilities for 2014...thank god I am no longer the Toilet CEO because I remembered entering the boys' toilet and losing my appetite for 1 whole week after that..come to think of it...I hope I lost 1 kg as well...

An Islamic calendar..love it because I can look at it without my specs

Needed this otherwise you will be dehydrated in the cold room

The meeting started with the briefing on school management and administration followed by curriculum.

Our administrators

Wow! The Ministry of Education has a new logo and to go with that a new vision and mission
Bravo! An increase of 3.8 % for PMR 2013

The top scorers hard work had paid off

We are among the top 10 in the Gombak district!

The last batch of the PMR 2013 was part of history as the exam has been abolished. Thus, the teachers and students went all out to improve the previous year's results and we performed quite well. So, let's keep the spirit burning and focus on next year's SPM.

So what kind of timetable did I get for next year? People always think that a Library and Media Teacher only teaches 8 to 12 periods but they always forget the library periods which account for the administration of the library from 7.30 a.m. till 4 p.m.

See...10 teaching periods plus 20 library periods = 30 periods per week

I believe some Library and Media Teachers have more teaching periods especially those in primary schools. So those who say that being a Library and Media Teacher is easy should volunteer to take up the post and I would gladly give up the post if anyone is interested(hoping really hard in 2014...heee...)

The scenario in the meeting room...

After listening for 2 hours, it was high time for a tea break at 10.00 a.m. just outside the meeting room. It's a norm that school teachers are the happiest when it's time to eat because teaching is hard work.

Meeting was resumed at 10.30 a.m. and we continued till 12.30 p.m. Lunch was held at the Rumbia Coffee House and we occupied most of the tables.

To sum it up...good food...good company

After the lunch break, the air-conditioning in the meeting room was bearable..either somebody had complained about it or the sumptuous food had increased our body temperature.

Taking a break while waiting for others to be back.

How did Akmal know the colour theme of the room?

Zamir never poses normally

The sports gang...Zamir, Darmadi and Zainuddin
Zainuddin did not look too happy because his name was mistakenly typed as one of the science lab assistants in the work schedule for 2014 because the new lab assistant's first name is similar to his...what a blunder!!! Hehe...

Hamdan(left) just got married and Khairul(right) is still looking for his Mrs Right..any Kelantanese maiden out there?

Let me tell you more about our male teachers. Though they may be the minority, they make an impact in terms of personalities. Most importantly they value health as they are ardent sport lovers and that's why our students excel in rugby and baseball. Pictures are worth a thousand words...

The biceps are the result of hard work at the gym

Archery is his game too

Isn't he an angel?

Have bike will travel

Grab him fast!

Where's the ball?

We're the Champion....

Aizat trains the baseball team...had won the district championship before

Back to the meeting....otherwise you will fall in love with our male teachers...

The last session was the meeting of the respective panels.

The English Panel

Serious discussion because the principal is in the panel!

Before wrapping up...another tea break. Luckily this is only a once a year affair otherwise it will be difficult to shed the pounds.

We were dismissed at 4.30 p.m. Some of the teachers spent the night at the hotel as we were given promotional rates for 10 rooms taken up. Each person had to pay RM 180.00 for the meeting plus the room and meals that night and the next day before checking out. Quite a good deal I would say. Well..I did not take up the offer because my house is just somewhere across the hotel and I had guests at home.

Daddy took care of Sofia while mummy was working

Make yourselves at home

Supper time

Before checking out...trust me Sofia..you will be the next Nurul Huda of Malaysia..says daddy Udeen...Malaysia Boleh!!!
Sayonara 2013...Welcome 2014! Wishing all of you good health, happiness and love...the countdown begins..3...2...1...Happy New Year!!!(sounds of fireworks...be imaginative!)

A date with the wolf

Every year my school holidays start later than others...to be exact a month later. Why???..to be of service to the country(not supposed to reveal what I actually do..sounds like I am a secret government agent huh..)..but I vowed to enjoy the full holidays next year. No choice as age is catching up and the blood pressure is going up. Well..I guess I have sacrificed enough of my previous holidays and contributed enough to the country so it's time I enjoy my future year end holidays.

As busy as I was, I managed to drop by at the Big Bad Wolf(BBW) Sale on the very last day which was 15 December 2013. It was not so much of buying books for myself but for my school library and BBW claimed to have 3 million books on their FB..that's why it is the biggest book sale in the world.

Found a set of books on animals...does that make me an animal lover?
Update...Kids do make amusing interpretations. When my niece saw the above photo, she told her mum(my cousin) excitedly that her aunty had written a book on horses(being a kid she thought writing a blog means writing a book) and she was very sure that I was going to give her a copy as a gift as she got straight A's in her UPSR 2013. I had a good laugh when my cousin told me about this when she and her two kids spent a week of the school holidays in my home. As far as I can remember, my only experience with horses was the time I rode a pony when I was a teenager at Lake Titiwangsa and I felt like I was going to fall off the pony as the ground was soft! If I ever write a book and manage to get it published, I will surely autograph a few copies for you and your friends, Eyvonne Cheah...heeee....

This is Eyvonne... having a good time at Pavilion
Now..let's go back to the book sale...
Why on earth would I go to a mega book sale dressed so formally and on a Sunday?
Well...I had to attend two weddings before that...an ex-student and a colleague who happens to be an ex-student too. Look at the happy couples on their memorable days...

Our ex-student Ungku Afiq and Nana...why was I standing so far apart from the groom...cos the best man suddenly went to the back when he realised the bridesmaid was not beside the bride...heee...

My colleague and ex-student Farhana
Farhana and Khai looking resplendent in red

Congrats to the happy couples and now back to more stories on BBW. Did I go there alone? Oh..definitely not. After the weddings I went to three different places to pick up my students...two at McD's, one at her home and one at her tuition centre and then we shot off to BBW..and took the wrong turn somewhere near Mines...thank god for the WAZE app on my smart phone(so the smart phone is smarter than the owner???...ohhh nooo...the owner is smart to get a smart phone) we found the correct road leading to BBW. There was a slight jam but I could tolerate that because I am a KL driver and KL girl(see..I'm always young at heart).

Soleh loves anything to do with the fire brigade...trucks...

Altogether four boxes worth RM 1400

Four boxes of books. The kids were kind enough to leave the teacher out when it came to carrying the boxes to the payment counter(good kids...after all they remembered the teacher has high blood pressure because she has to leave the library once in a while to collect her medication or for her doctor's appointment).

At the payment counter, strict instruction was given to the cashier..less than RM100 per receipt okay..otherwise the teacher can't claim from the school...no choice..pay first and claim later...because BBW is held at the end of the year and that's when my students and I have some time to go and scout for books. So library work for next year has unofficially started!!!
